Winner - Best Brunch

There's a festive, special-occasion something or other surrounding brunch that separates it from other, lesser repasts, and the Nob Hill Grille prepares a weekend brunch worthy of its celebratory status. The place itself is cozy and friendly, with big sunny windows looking out on Pine Street, and a neighborhood vibe that embraces one and all. And the food is superb: vanilla brioche French toast with crème anglaise and blackberry compote; a hash of smoky, robust housemade corned beef with two perfectly poached eggs on top; breakfast sliders of cheese, sausage, scrambled egg, and chipotle aioli on freshly baked brioche buns; a light-as-air omelette bursting with merguez lamb sausage, fresh spinach, and melted goat cheese. Even the home fries are noteworthy: buttery, crunchy, and soufflélike in texture.

Comments: How many restaurants in one!!

For breakfast this is a nice relaxing place to come with friends, talk crap and eat great food. The chairs out the front make you feel like you are 4 years old again (as you swing your legs in the wind and blow raspberries at the person opposite you). Weekends offer breakfast sliders, but the omelets are the way of the future.

The Lunch sandwiches are huge and taste great - although i have only done that once, i moved back to breakfast menu cause i am a sucker for a 1pm lunch on a Saturday.

At night, this is a sweet relaxing night spot, makes you feel like you are a mum and dad who have snuck away from the kids to have some of your own time (i am not sure if that actually exists though).
The BBQ Ribs fell off the bone and the Lamb Shanks (special menu) were the best ones i have had in the US and A.

Comments: I really don't write many reviews... it always seems a bit tedious, and when you read reviews of a place, someone has usually said what you were thinking anyway. For this place, I have to make an exception. There are a few exceptional things about this kinda quaint restaurant that need to be pointed out, from the point of view of a semi-frequent visitor. 1) I have been in for all three meals at one point or another. At each visit, one of the two owners is not only present, but friendly and helpful with service. These guys are genuinely nice and successfully walk the line between professional (excellent wine knowledge), and cool (talk college sports with either of them). 2) Breakfast/Lunch waitress Mona. She's awesome. You need to go in to experience it for yourself. 3) BBQ ribs. Some type of chipotle BBQ sauce sends these things over the top. Tender, smoky, mind-bendingly delicious. I love this place so much that I guarantee it. If you eat here and don't like it, come punch me in the face. I'm not into BDSM, but I would really let you do it if you somehow had a bad experience here.

Comments: I. Love. This. Place. My GF and I have only been for dinner, but it's always amazing. Th menu changes seasonally, which is awesome, so you get to try new things often. The staff is always friendly and the wine selection is top-notch. The dishes range from traditional to new and innovative. Even though we had a poor experience last night, we shall return again and maybe again after that and then again some more to enjoy this excellent little restaurant on an unsuspecting corner of Nob Hill.

Comments: I had a friend come in from the East coast this past weekend and wanted to use her as my guinea pig to explore new places to eat. We saw that Nob Hill Grille was only 4 blocks from my apartment, served mimosas, and had a full brunch menu, so it was obviously the winning choice.

When we walked inside, there were a few people already waiting for a table. Unfortunately, the hostess was nowhere to be found, and when she did come back, she must not have noticed us standing there and didn't ask for our names for the waiting list. (I'll let this slide though, because it was Saturday morning and Valentine's Day, so I'm sure they were extra busy.) While we waited, we were offered drinks or coffee until our table was ready. Once we were seated, our waitress was very attentive (despite the fact that she was waiting about 5 full tables by herself) and gave us good recommendations for drinks to match our brunch plates. We both ended up getting omelettes which were amazing. Mine was stuffed with ham, onions, and brie cheese and was THE BEST thing I have eaten in weeks. The egg was fluffy and the ingredients all tasted extremely fresh. The home-style potatoes and toast on the side were excellent, as well. Before we left, we glanced at the dinner menu out of curiosity and it looked like it could've given me a thousand foodgasms in every bite. I will DEFINITELY be back to try it, as well as some of their wines!

The only downfall about this place is that it is a bit small, but on the other hand, its small size really does add to the quaint atmosphere. If you go during busier times, there's always the option to bypass the wait and eat at the counter where you can watch the food being prepared!

Comments: I've been going to NHG since they opened, and I keep returning. It's a little gem in the Nob Hill neighborhood. The food is really very good, and constantly improving in both quality and menu offerings. The flatbread appetizer is alone worth going for. Have you tried the ribs? In my opinion, the best menu item, although the pot pie is not to be ignored. They have some pretty exotic desert cupcakes that are excellent, and aren't too heavy on the frosting like many of the fancy cupcakes out there.

The decor is exactly what you want from a casual but comfortable neighborhood restaurant. The prices aren't bad, and given the portions and quality, you'll be pleased. The owners are about the most gracious guys you could ask for.

If any improvements are to be made, I think the wine offerings could be a little better and a little less expensive. Also, an after dinner expresso would be great.

If you haven't gone, or haven't gone in a while, it's definitely worth checking out.

Comments: Okay, everyone, this place gets 5 %&*!-in stars. The service and management go that extra mile for you. YOU! Don't abuse it though. They're too awesome. My only real qualm about NHG was the prices, but that sounds like a personal problem to me; don't you think? Honestly? I think I'm just a little poor...

The open-faced Meatball Sandwich, which is not really the kind of sandwich you pick up, but the kind you get down on with a fork and knife, is juicy and delicious. The meatballs were handmade with green onions, garlic, and I think some other spice/herb in them. These meatballs, oh man, yeah. This was topped with juicy, tomato-y, pico de gallo-ish sauce.

I love this cute, little, warm and fuzzy restaurant.

ABOUT US

When owner-operatiors Rich Paez and Fabio Stefani first took over the 19-year-old Nob Hill Grille in January of 2007, they immediately began the restaurant's transformation from a "breakfast only diner" to the Nob Hill neighborhood's "Grille for all Meals." Under the direction of Executive Chef Heli Samaniego, Fabio & Rich continually refine the menu to reflect seasonal changes as well as happenings in the City's collective restaurant world.

At the NHG, we believe in feeding our guests as we like to fed, amply and with excellent product quality using local purveyors of the finest meats and produce, cultivating relatioships within our wondrous backyard. For guests that are away from home and desire a night off from the San Francisco restaurant 'scene,' we offer a friendlier home-style environment, where you can talk food with our Chef Heli in an open kitchen and get to know the city better with SF Natives Fabio & Rich, who have over 20 years of restaurant experience between them.
